I think it's fair to say that for a lot of people, that's a big draw, and a significant desire! Sure you may also think it's cuter, or that fits your character better, but I don't think it exactly stops there, ya know? We're influenced by what we see, by what we have or think we can't reach, as well as all that in what's going on with our peers, and our wants and tastes evolve and shape around that. The physical exhaustion of the fursuit's extra weight, size, and heat are gone, it doesn't take dozens of extra hours and hundreds or thousands of extra dollars to acquire, and boom! You can have that "extra" something you saw out of reach before, and have been potentially perceiving as the fullest extent of being able to be an animal person is.Right there! Jumping into VR, suddenly a lot of the barriers are gone when it comes to character design. And like, hella that's totally cool! But being a physical object full of foam and padding and fabric and heat, they're more difficult to wear, more taxing to romp around in, and require more of you in ways beyond the extra monetary cost to acquire.Īnd all that wrapped up, you have an echelon of "something more" that's a bit of an ingrained desire or possible bias in a LOT of folks when it comes to ways to BE your fursona. Some view em as an extra step to BEING your fursona, BEING that animal person, embodying something beyond the human you're stuck in. The highest rung you can get with all the bells and whistles. They're more exaggerated and shaped, there's more animal and less human, and they're also more expensive, more out of reach, and more exclusive because of that. ![]() I think it's fair to say that many furs into suits see digitigrase (aka digi legs) as a kind of "top tier". This next part may be a little contentious, but please bear with me. Specifically, the kinds of bodyshapes, legs, and paw styles of those fursuits. There's obviously a myriad of reasons why people want more animal-liked features, folks making avatars prefer it, maybe advantages to modeling (I dunno), but I think a VERY big influence is, as I said earlier, fursuits. I'll elaborate.īy and large, the vast majority of furry avatars are digitigrade. I also think expectations, hierarchies of desirability, and aspirations of that also affect vrchat avatar design, especially regarding leg style. Fursuits have decades of being physical interpretations of the animals we are, and re-interpreting that into a physical-digital realm where we directly interact as them just makes sense. I'm not too sure of where you can find them, but Trap Chan's Avatar Mall has a few, and otherwise you just need to import some using the diverse tutorials there are for it, whether it is with rigging and adapting a 3D Model or using CATS plugin to deal with MMDs.I think it's fair to say that fursuit design has a big influence on the design and proportion and modeling design of VRChat furry avatars. I'm unaware of other places with constant furry population, but you can still see a few outside, those are just some pointers as to where you can see them a bit more in specific. ![]() So, that's where you can usually find them if you want to find a few randomly on those servers. Meanwhile the other place, Best Boi Studios, is for some sort of "Anti Ugandan Defence Force" (not forcedfully) lead on by the fantasy creature "Dutch Angel Dragon" created by fursuiter Telephone, and modeled, modified and worked over by thekibblemeister. One place has some sort of "Hyena Tribe" full of DarnHyena's model work, and his open-source models that some people choose to retexture and work on aswell, but you also find all sort of furries and characters there. Hyenidae Emporium (if I spelled it right), and Best Boi Studios. ![]() There aren't many furries generally in most other worlds (for whatever reason that I'm unaware of), since I only mostly see myself with an exception of one or two people a week.īut where I can ALWAYS guarantee you there'll be furries are these two places: Hey, I'm a furry myself - while I don't like to hang around their crowd too much, I can tell you usually where a lot of furries are, almost guaranteed you'll always see one or two, and likely to see from 5 to 15.
